City of Amarillo opens applications for boards, commissions

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The City of Amarillo announced it will accept applications for 65 positions on city boards and commissions through Oct. 9, offering the opportunity for community members to become involved in developing policy recommendations and impacting aspects of daily life in the city.

Officials noted the city has more than 25 boards and commissions, including for areas of interest ranging from health and historical landmark preservation to event planning and public improvement districts. While some boards and commissions require members to meet certain qualifications regarding career experience or property interest, many positions are open to many adult residents of Potter and Randall counties.

According to the city, those who serve on a board or commission should:

  • Be a registered voter, though the Amarillo City Council may appoint someone not registered “who brings exceptional subject-matter knowledge or expertise” to serve on a board or commission;
  • Not be indebted to the city; and
  • Be a resident of Potter or Randall counties.
