Amarillo, TX – Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact the Texas Panhandle this afternoon, with the greatest risk between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo.
Forecasters said storms could bring damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail as large as ping pong balls across the region, particularly along the Highway 60 corridor northeast of Amarillo. While the risk for tornadoes remains low, officials noted a brief spin-up cannot be ruled out.
According to the NWS, the northwestern Panhandles, including areas near Boise City, Guymon, and Stratford, face the highest chances of severe weather as supercells are expected to develop late this afternoon.
