Amarillo, TX – Weather Alert: Over 3 Inches of Rain Drench Northeast Side While Airport Logs 1.6″

Amarillo, Texas – Residents across Amarillo woke up to strikingly uneven rainfall totals Thursday, with the northeast side of the city logging more than 3 inches while parts of downtown and the west side saw less than a quarter inch. The Texas Panhandle overall picked up widespread rain, with the northwest and central corridor recording some of the heaviest amounts.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, rainfall varied dramatically depending on location. Their office on the northeast side of town reported 3.09 inches, while just a mile south at the Amarillo Airport, totals came in at 1.61 inches. Downtown Amarillo collected only 0.24 inches, and spots along Bell Street and I-40 received as little as 0.12.

Heavier bands stretched northwest toward Dumas, Borger, and Dalhart, where totals exceeded 2 inches in several areas. In contrast, communities such as Canyon and Bushland measured closer to a tenth of an inch.
