CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M converted a pair of penalty kicks on Saturday afternoon on their way to a 4-0 shutout regional win over the Cougars of Colorado Christian at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas.
WT took an early lead against Colorado Christian with Ben Scotford converting a penalty kick in the 9th minute following a yellow card issued to Bodie Curtis. D’Jonte Davis extended the lead in the 14th minute, scoring with an assist from Desire Essis to make it 2-0. CCU attempted to respond with shots from Salvador Fernandes and Jackson Schroeder, but both were saved by Zach Kos. The Buffs maintained their advantage into the half, despite accruing several fouls.
West Texas A&M began the second period strongly against Colorado Christian, with Dominic Murphy scoring in the 50th minute, assisted by Davis, to increase their lead to 3-0. The Aggies continued to dominate as Davis converted a penalty kick in the 66th minute, bringing the score to 4-0. Throughout the period, Colorado Christian struggled to break through, with Lucas Peruzo and Iasonas Nikolaidis missing the target on their attempts.
