Local nonprofit transforms motel into safe haven for homeless men

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A local nonprofit organization, Bridging the Gaps, has taken a significant step in addressing homelessness by acquiring a motel, now called Charlie’s Place, to serve as a safe haven for men in need.

The organization, which began its efforts in March, has expanded its resources to include therapy, dentistry, and eye care, said Shane Jones, treasurer of Bridging the Gaps.

“We started with a check for $125 at the Rotary Club, and we’ve turned this into we’ve been donated trucks, vans, and we have an apartment complex at our disposal now. We have a hotel. We have therapy, we have dentistry, we have eye care. There’s this thing that’s just completely taken off like nobody’s business. It’s definitely God is definitely open to all these doors for us,” Jones said…
