Barrio Neighborhood Planning Committee hosts 3rd El Día de Los Muertos celebration, park fundraiser

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Barrio Neighborhood Planning Committee and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church are set to host their third annual El Día de Los Muertos celebration on Oct. 30, which is also set to raise funds for La Plazita Park.

The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 30 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, according to organizers, in the church sanctuary and parish hall.

Attendees are encouraged to dress up and bring family members, said organizers, to enjoy “a brief Christian celebration and history of this event, in English and Spanish” as well as view ofrendas and dioramas, and watch the Glenwood Elementary School Ballet folklorico dancers perform and teach the Mexican hat dance. The event is also expected to include mariachi music and face painting, and offer drinks, free walking tacos and cookies.

Donations will be accepted during the event, which organizers said will benefit the La Plazita Park bike racks at 918 S Houston St.

“This green space public park will include seating, a half-circle stage and sound system for performances and events, free WiFi, two monuments to recognize our generous sponsors, monogrammed brick pavers, bike racks, four pole lights, a storage building, trees and flowers, a place for food trucks and other vendors to sell their products, and artificial turf,” said the BNPC…
