CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Canyon High School took top honors at this year’s High Plains Marching Festival, claiming first place in Saturday’s finals competition at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
The annual event featured dozens of bands from across the Panhandle showcasing their musical and marching talents. After preliminary performances, the following schools earned special recognition:
- Outstanding Color Guard: Hereford High School
- Outstanding Drum Major: Caprock High School
- Outstanding Percussion: West Plains High School
Class champions were named as follows:
- 1A: Petersburg
- 2A: Panhandle
- 3A: Bushland
- 4A: Canyon
- 5A: Amarillo
Following the evening finals, Canyon High School emerged as the overall winner of the 2025 High Plains Marching Festival. Amarillo High placed second, and West Plains High finished third. Randall High secured fourth place, followed by Hereford, Caprock, Bushland, and Panhandle, rounding out the top eight.
The annual festival, hosted in Canyon, serves as a major tune-up for UIL marching contests later this fall.
