Valiant effort by Wylie falls short against No. 10 Amarillo Palo Duro

AMARILLO, Texas (BCH Sports) – The Wylie Bulldogs gave the 10th-ranked Amarillo Palo Duro Dons all they could handle Friday night, but ultimately fell short, 42-35, in a hard-fought District 2-5A Division I showdown.

The Dons opened strong with back-to-back touchdowns, but Wylie punched back in the second quarter. Blaze Ruffin broke loose on a screen pass, racing over 70 yards to the end zone to trim the deficit. Palo Duro answered quickly, as quarterback Julian Reese connected deep with Arturo Velasquez to make it 21-7.

Just before halftime, Wylie seized momentum. The Bulldogs blocked a punt deep in Don territory, recovering possession at the 15-yard line. Moments later, they powered into the end zone, cutting the lead to 21-14 at the break…
