After 8 Years, Amarillo’s First Responders Finally Get Their Day

One thing we don’t seem to do enough in Amarillo is recognize our first responders. We seem to utilize them more often than we think about, especially with the amount of small crimes that happen within the city.

Fires happen more often than we typically hear about, and paramedics seem to be very busy in the area. When it comes to police, we tend only to be angry with them if they pull us over, but we don’t think about everything they do to keep us safe.

First Responders Day

This is a day that was established back in 2017, and it was intended to honor those first responders who put their lives on the line every day for us, and for those who save lives when they’re in need.

October 28th is the day that we take a moment to recognize those people and show them our immense gratitude for what they do. This isn’t just limited to those out in the field; we’re talking about 911 dispatchers who have to work quickly, 988 crisis teams, and search & rescue teams.

Amarillo Will Officially Recognize The Day

After eight years, those first responders in Amarillo will finally get their own day. There is a City Council meeting that is kicking off today at 3 pm, and one of the resolutions that will be accepted will be officially declaring October 28 First Responders Day in the city…
