AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — During Tuesday’s Amarillo City Council Regular Meeting, the council proclaimed that Oct. 28 would be known as ” Local First Responders Day,” in Amarillo.
The proclamation also served as a reminder of progress on the Texas Panhandle First Responder Memorial.

Potter County Sheriff Brian Thomas said he hopes they will have the money raised by that day so they can break ground. Texas Panhandle First Responder Memorial Board Member Gary Pitner said they are about $150,000 away from their goal.
“These guys and gals out on these uniforms every day for us, and unlike us they know that there’s a chance they might not return home to their families,” said Pitner. They take that chance for us, they take care of the big things and the small things.”…
