AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A Texas non-profit made a stop in Amarillo to speak to the community about the latest research in child care deserts.
The Texas nonprofit, “Children at Risk,” hosted a community event in Amarillo on Thursday as part of its tour through the state to discuss the latest research on child care deserts.
Fermi officials respond to community concerns over water use
The community conversation examined affordability and educator wages in the childcare sector. Data showed that 18 zip codes in the Panhandle Local Workforce Development Board are classified as child care deserts.
“When a community thinks about child care and they are thinking about the economic stability of the region, childcare has to be a part of that infrastructure,” said Kim Cofron, Senior Director of Education for Children at Risk. “You can have great businesses come into our community, but if we are not making sure families have a place for their children to go, then those workers aren’t going to be for those big businesses.”…
