Honoring Assistant Amarillo Fire Chief Robert “Bob” Schwab

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Assistant Fire Chief Robert “Bob” Schwab was known as “The General.” After 24 years of dedicated service, Schwab would pass away, and along with many other first responders across the Texas Panhandle, he will be honored at the Texas Panhandle First Responders Memorial.

“I retired from the city myself, but I can say I never saw anyone that was more dedicated and committed to public safety and public service than my father was,” said Gary Schwab, Robert Schwab’s son.

According to the Amarillo Fire Department, Chief Schwab began his career as a Firefighter for the City of Amarillo on July 13, 1949, and on December 1, 1952, he was transferred to Record Clerk, holding that position until he became a fire truck driver on September 1, 1953. He was promoted to Lieutenant on September 10, 1957, and then to Fire Captain on January 16, 1962. On March 1, 1962, he became Drillmaster of the Amarillo Fire Department…
