Man indicted in Potter County accused of bringing gun to Palo Duro High School

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – One man was indicted Potter County on Wednesday for allegedly possessing a gun as a felon and unlawfully carrying a gun in a prohibited place, after a September incident at Palo Duro High School.

According to court documents, 30-year-old Shyrius Donquale Matthews was arrested on Sept. 23 after officers working at Palo Duro High School allegedly received a report of a man “flashing a gun on campus.” Matthews was found standing outside one of the school doors, according to officers, and allegedly had a gun in his possession.

Matthews was arrested at the time for “unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon,” according to court documents, for allegedly having a gun despite having been convicted of a felony charge within the last five years. He was indicted on that charge on Wednesday, and also indicted on one count of allegedly unlawfully carrying a firearm in a prohibited place.
