West Texas A&M University issues notice of reported on-campus, off-campus stalking incidents

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – West Texas A&M University released a timely warning notification after the University Police Department received a report on Friday of a series of alleged stalking incidents occurring on and off campus.

According to WT officials, police received the report on Friday alleging that a series of stalking incidents had been occurring since September.

“Title IX has been notified and victim’s rights and options have been provided,” said WT officials in the notification.

Officials further made note of signs of an abusive relationship or stalking, including:

  • Assaultive abuse that could be physical, emotional or verbal;
  • A person who looks at you or acts in ways that scare you; or
  • A person making unwanted phone calls, texts or social media posts.

University police encouraged bystanders to intervene, speak up or otherwise report incidents when witnessing sexual or relationship violence. Police also encouraged bystanders to believe those who confide in them about sexual assault, abusive behavior or experiences with stalking, and to check in with friends and fellow students or employees who look like they may be in trouble…
