City of Amarillo details shelter, transportation, Code Blue Warming Station information for cold weather

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The City of Amarillo reminded community members of shelter information, transportation, and support services with the arrival of cold weather in the region, particularly during overnight hours.

Shelter information for community members in the Amarillo area includes:

  • Day shelters and warm places:
    • The Panhandle Adult Rebuilding Center (PARC)
      • 413 SW 6th Ave.
      • 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    • Guyon Saunders Resource Center
      • 200 S Tyler St.
      • Sunday – Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Transformation Park Safe Space
      • 1501 SW 5th Ave.

      • Hours open: 24/7
        • Capacity: 75 individuals
    • Amarillo Public Library
      • Downtown – 413 SE 4th Ave.
      • Hours open: (Closed on city holidays)

Regarding transportation, city officials said when the temperature drops below 32 degrees, Amarillo City Transit will provide free transportation from the nearest bus stop to shelters between 6:20 a.m. and 6:25 p.m.

Further, Amarillo’s Coming Home Program will conduct outreach from 6 p.m. through 12 a.m., including checking on people outdoors to provide cold-weather supplies and transportation to shelters or warming stations.

City officials further encouraged community members to consider donating blankets, gloves, socks and cold-weather gear to shelters and resource programs such as Transformation Park, the Salvation Army, Faith City Mission or the Coming Home Program.
