Meet Carevember: Amarillo’s New Effort to Wrap Winter in Kindness

Last month, the City of Amarillo teamed up with the community for Socktober. The goal was to collect 1,500 pairs of socks for those in need, and the City ultimately collected over 1,900 pairs.

Partners in Action: Public Library and Coming Home

This isn’t where the giving ends, though. The City of Amarillo recently announced a new initiative for November, titled Carevember.

Once again, the Amarillo Public Library system and Amarillo’s Coming Home program are teaming up to make sure those who are in dire need. All of the branches of the Amarillo Public Library will serve as drop-off locations for donations.

Donation Items & Targets

The items that the City is looking for during Carevember are:

  • Adult-size winter gloves
  • Feminine hygiene maxi pads
  • toothbrushes
  • toothpaste

These items will be used in Care Kits assembled by the United Way Youth Leadership Council.

The goals this month seem a bit steeper than October’s. The City is hoping for 1,500 pairs of winter gloves, toothbrushes, and tubes of toothpaste. They’re also hoping for 5,232 feminine hygiene pads.

How You Can Help

Items can be dropped off at any of the Amarillo Public Library’s branches during the month of November. You can also find out more by going to the Carevember page of the Amarillo Public Library’s website…
