AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – On this episode of the Yellow City Rundown for the week of Nov. 10 through 14, we focus on the news of a retired Deaf Smith County judge who was publicly reprimanded, potential charges regarding an assault incident involving West Plains students, the WT Drag Show ban trial, and an Amarillo College employee resigning after being placed on leave.
We also dive into what happened in Amarillo on Nov. 14, 1927.
Top the Panhandle:
- Retired Deaf Smith County Municipal Judge publicly reprimanded by State Commission on Judicial Conduct
- Following a review of allegations against retired Municipal Court Judge, Jennifer Eggen, in Hereford, the State Commission on Judicial Conduct has issued a Public Reprimand in admonishment of Eggen.
- The commission said Eggen had failed to comply with the law and maintain professional competence in the law.
- According to the documents, Eggen wrote a response to the commission stating that she is no longer employed by the City of Hereford Municipal Court having retired after 19 years. Eggen later wrote in a second response that she denies any misconduct listed in the document.
- Charges to be filed in assault incident involving West Plains students
- The Randall County Sheriff’s Office reported that charges are set to be filed in relation to an assault investigation involving West Plains students.
- APD and Randall County stated they were made aware of the assault that happened on Nov. 4 in Randall County, after dispatch received several calls and tagged in dozens of posts.
- Officials said that both the Amarillo Police and the Randall County Sheriff’s Office have taken reports on this incident, and it’s currently under investigation.
- Trial regarding the West Texas A&M drag show ban scheduled
- The trial regarding whether West Texas A&M University can ban drag shows has been scheduled in the District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Amarillo Division.
- According to court documents, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals recently issued an order vacating the previous opinion and scheduling the case for a rehearing. The District Court has now issued a Second Amended Scheduling Order, according to court documents.
- Documents state the trial between Spectrum WT v. Walter Wendler is set for a three-week civil trial beginning Jan. 14, 2026, at 10 a.m.
- Amarillo College employee placed on administrative leave pending finance related investigation
- Amarillo College announced that it has placed its Vice President of Business Affairs, Chris Sharp, on administrative leave pending an investigation related to financial procedures.
- According to AC on Oct. 3, Sharp was placed on administrative leave, and AC immediately initiated an independent audit.
- AC said Sharp submitted his resignation this week. However, the college stated in a quote that the college’s finances are stable.
Panhandle Planner:
- Amarillo City Transit has two public engagement meetings scheduled at the ACT Multimodal Terminal on Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Nov. 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- The regular city council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18.
- The Amarillo College board meeting, where they will be talking about the resignation, is on Nov. 18.
