Man indicted after allegedly stealing $40,000 in collectible sports, trading cards

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – One man was indicted in Randall County on Wednesday after allegedly stealing about $40,000 worth of collectible sports cards and Pokémon cards in August.

48-year-old Daniel Zavala, Jr. was indicted Wednesday on one count of alleged property theft valued between $30,000 and $150,000.

Zavala was initially arrested on Aug. 22 after he and his vehicle were allegedly linked to a burglary at Mike’s Sports Cards, located inside White Lotus Spa on Paramount Street.

According to the Amarillo Police Department at the time of the reported burglary, a suspect allegedly forced an entry through the front glass door of the business and stole around $40,000 worth of collectible sports cards and Pokémon cards. Zavala was identified as a possible suspect through surveillance video, according to police.

Zavala was later found at a local “cash for gold” business in west Amarillo, according to police. Officers pulled over the vehicle Zavala was driving at the time and allegedly found a stolen license plate linked to a separate burglary…
