How to safely prepare your Thanksgiving feast

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, and as everyone gets ready to prepare the holiday meal, doctors are reminding everyone to stay safe and make sure they are properly preparing food.

“So cooking safety is really important anytime we’re preparing food, but particularly when we’re serving large meals for groups of people, we want to make sure that everyone enjoys the meal and stays well after,” added Assistant Vice President of Research & Assistant Professor, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, Dr. Christine Garner.

Dr. Garner explained that when cooking the turkey, make sure the meat is cooked to 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

“That’s the temperature that it should be reached to make sure that it’s safe to eat. So I would recommend using a meat thermometer and cooking and checking the temperature of that turkey to make sure that it reaches that point,” Dr. Garner explained…
