AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Rural communities across Texas, including portions of the Texas Panhandle, are expected to see improvements to high-speed internet access after the federal government approved the state’s broadband expansion plan.
According to officials, the approval releases more than $1.3 million for broadband projects statewide.
Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock said the state’s plan will use a combination of fiber, fixed wireless systems and low-earth orbit satellite technology to reach areas that have struggled with slow or no service.

“Those funds will be going out, and those projects will be going especially up in the panhandle area,” Hancock said. “All the key points of connectivity that we’re looking at across the state are going to be addressed by various means, which is excellent.”…
