Amarillo gas prices fell 7.1 cents, average $2.42/gallon on Monday

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Gas prices in Amarillo fell 7.1 cents per gallon in the last week to reach an average of $2.42/gallon on Monday, according to the most recent report from GasBuddy. Those prices are 4.1 cents per gallon lower than they were a month ago and 7.7 cents per gallon higher than they were a year ago.

GasBuddy reported the cheapest station in Amarillo was priced at $2.19/gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive was $2.80/gallon, a difference of 61.0 cents. The lowest price in Texas was noted as $2.09/gallon, while the most expensive was $3.99/gallon, a difference of $1.90.

Nationally, the average price of gas has fallen 8.5 cents from last week’s average of $2.95/gallon on Monday. That national average was noted down 6.9 cents from a month ago and stands 5.4 cents lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel fell by 5.5 cents to stand at around $3.72/gallon.

Gas prices in areas neighboring Amarillo included:

  • Lubbock- $2.30/gallon, down 6.2 cents from last week’s $2.36/gallon.
  • Midland Odessa- $2.41/gallon, down 7.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.48/gallon.
  • Oklahoma- $2.33/gallon, down 11.3 cents from last week’s $2.44/gallon.

“Nearly every state saw average gas prices fall heading into Thanksgiving, with the national average dipping below $3 per gallon for several consecutive days—falling to $2.95/gal over the weekend, the lowest level since May 2021,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “With refinery maintenance largely complete and OPEC increasing oil production for December, oil prices have struggled. Combine those factors and you have a solid recipe for continued downward pressure on gas prices in the weeks ahead. A few dozen stations are already offering gas under $2 per gallon, and we could see that number grow as we move further into the holiday season. It couldn’t come at a better time for Americans—with relief arriving just as the holidays kick off.”…
