AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — For over 3 decades, the Downtown Women’s Center has been working in the community to help women with addiction get on the path to sobriety and have a place to call home.
“Downtown Women’s Center has four shelters for women who have come in with addiction. So they start at the Haven House, so we have Haven House 1 and 2, and then you graduate to the Abba House, and then you’ll graduate to the Gratitude House,” explained Volunteer for Downtown Women’s Center Sherry McKean.

The Downtown Women’s Center Recovery Program is around a two-year program with leaders and volunteers supporting the women with each step along the process.
” You start at the Haven House, Haven House 1 and 2. And so there are lots of rules to follow, a lot of meetings. The women are kept very, very, very busy,” added McKean. “I’m one of many volunteers, but the community comes together and they work out their lives, and we just come alongside and help them.”…
