City of Amarillo announces traffic control plan including lane closures

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The City of Amarillo and Atmos Energy are conducting a gas main infrastructure replacement project, which will require temporary lane closures beginning Tuesday on Georgia Street, Austin Street, and Laurel Street.

According to COA officials, the temporary lane closures will impact traffic on the northbound side of S. Georgia Street and the closure of Austin Street from Georgia Street to Laurel Street. Laurel Street will also be closed to pass-through traffic at Austin Street.

The completion timeline for the replacement project is expected to last until January. Additionally, the City of Amarillo Solid Waste Department will be relocating dumpsters in affected alleys.

COA officials said the project will impact traffic around the construction area; however, the contractor will do their best to minimize effects on the public. Motorists are encouraged to observe all traffic signs in the vicinity.
