One of our Christmas Eve traditions at our house is to drive around Amarillo and look at all the different Christmas light displays while doing a bit of a scavenger hunt. We print out a list of things to look for, and knock them off as we find them.
In order to do this, we have to find some of the more unique neighborhoods that are loaded up with lit houses and some crazy displays for the holiday. Sometimes, though, that can be a little tough, as not every neighborhood loads up on the lights. I know the neighborhood we live in has some, but it’s not the whole street like others.
Why Aren’t People Decorating as They Did In The Past
Well, there are various reasons, I believe. One is time. It seems there is less and less time to go around these days. Putting up a good light display takes a lot of time. A full day of work, if not more. I used to do it, but life got hectic, and I stopped.
Another honestly is money. It costs money to buy the decorations or have people put them up for you, like many have started doing. Even once you’ve purchased all the stuff, the money continues to flow out because your electricity bill is undoubtedly going to jump up a bit.
