AAA Texas: Gas prices hit new four-year lows

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As reported by the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the average gas price across Texas was $2.51 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday. 14 cents less compared to the same day last year.

According to AAA Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.80 per gallon, while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.20 per gallon. Drivers in Amarillo are paying $2.22 per gallon, which is nine cents less compared to last week and 34 cents less compared to this day last year.

According to AAA Texas officials, most metro areas in Texas and throughout the U.S. are paying the lowest gas prices in four years. Officials project 9.4 million Texans will travel at least 50 miles from home during the year-end holiday travel period, which is a 1.7% increase over 2024.

Amarillo gas prices fell 8.0 cents, average $2.22/gallon on Monday

“In most parts of the state, drivers should be able to find a few gas stations charging $2 a gallon or less,” said Doug Shupe, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Texans driving to year-end holiday destinations can easily find the lowest gas prices near them on their journey by using the free AAA Mobile app.”
