Amarillo Shopping Center Gets New Anchor Tenant in Former Market

The South Tree Shopping Center in Amarillo has seen better days. It seems that most of those businesses have closed their doors. One of the major stores was Market 33, but it closed its doors in August 2024, leaving a giant empty building.

Why South Tree Shopping Center Declined?

Dollar General also closed its doors in this particular shopping center, and soon, the Pak-A-Sak on the corner followed. Now the shopping center feels like a ghost town. A few businesses remain on the side strip, including an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting space and Venetian Nails.

However, all that is about to change. Although it won’t be a grocery store, a business is moving into the empty Market 33 building. According to PRAD, the building owned by Copheranham LLC was sold to FQC Amarillo LLC in August.

Locke Supply Co. Plans Move Into Former Market 33 Building

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the project has been registered by FQC Amarillo LLC, and is expected to begin in January. The completion date for construction is June 2026. The estimated cost for the renovation project is $85,000.

What does this mean for the current Locke Supply Co., located at 5119 Plains Blvd.? We reached out to Locke Supply Co., and Michael Paciga, Chief Operating Officer, said that Locke Supply Co. will be moving to the new location. They expect to be in the South Tree Shopping Center location during the 1st Quarter of 2026.

The new location is a much larger facility and will allow us to keep more parts and supplies to provide a higher level of service to the community. It will also provide us with a more modern facility for both customers and associates.
