Beloved Amarillo Meat Market Suddenly Closes

It’s been a tough year for a lot of Amarillo businesses, and with only nine days left in the year, I’m sure a lot of the businesses that survived the storm are happy to see the new year coming. No doubt they, and a lot of us, are hoping for better things in 2026.

Sadly, the year caught another business, and this one is a total bummer for me. I loved going in here from time to time to grab something special for the family, throw it on the grill or smoker, and just enjoy a really good meal.

Edes Meat Market Shuts Their Doors

I recently ran over to the Edes Meat Market on Hillside to grab some of their tasty sausages for dinner one night, and ran into something I did not want to see. They’re closed. No, I didn’t show up too early, I mean, they’re closed, out of business.

Talk about a sad day. It was just mere minutes from my house, and I loved the convenience of it being right there.

Why Did Edes Go Out Of Business

Well, we know meat prices are on the rise, so it’s possible many were opting for the lower prices of the grocery store. Meat definitely is not cheap, and we aren’t making any more money, so those rising prices are really hitting us hard. This sign was hanging on the door underneath the Edes “closed” sign.

Just like many, it appears the rent went unpaid, and most likely for several months before going out of business. I did notice the last time I was in there, the meat selection was pretty small, and it could be they knew this was coming…
