Several safety improvement projects on I-27 and State Loop (SL) 335 continue to make progress in the Amarillo district going into the new year, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) said in a recent update.
I-27 expansion to six lanes between Amarillo and Canyon
What’s been done: Crews recently completed the demolition of the US 60/87 direct connect bridge, just north of Canyon and currently working on drainage improvements.
What’s happening now: The right lane of southbound I-27 from Sundown Lane to McCormick Road was closed Dec. 21 for barrier wall placement, and southbound I-27 traffic shifted Dec. 22 to the west in the first step for work on the northbound lanes between McCormick Road and State Loop (SL) 335.
When will it be finished: The $312 million dollar project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
