AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — On Tuesday afternoon many gathered at the Amarillo Club for the Blair Cherry Memorial Awards. This is an award that has been around for decades dating back to 1969 as a way to honor the most outstanding former high school athletes from the Texas Panhandle who are shining at the college football level.
This year, Amarillo High graduate and Stephen F. Austin offensive lineman Erik Gray was named the recipient of the Blair Cherry Award. Gray made his mark on the football field for the Lumberjacks this season receiving All-American and Southland Conference honors.
Also among the four candidates include:
- Jamel Acosta-Lewis, West Texas A&M University (Caprock High School)
- Tayden Barnes, University of Cincinnati (Tascosa High School)
- Kash Bradley, Colorado Mesa University (Bushland High School)
