After the Christmas week’s increased fire risk, state wildfire officials are again urging Texans to use caution to prevent any fires sparking during holiday travel and celebrations for the New Year as unseasonably warm, dry weather continues to combine with dormant grasses to elevate wildfire danger across much of the state.
Texas A&M Forest Service said Dec. 31 that “Due to hot, dry, and windy conditions combined with freeze-cured grasses, the risk of potential wildfires throughout most of the state has increased for the remainder of the week. … As we close out 2025 and head into 2026, your actions can help prevent a wildfire. Stay wildfire aware. If a wildfire is spotted, immediately contact local authorities. A quick response can help save lives and property.”…
