AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — On Thursday, the Our Blood Institute at Coffee Memorial Blood Center announced its blood supply is low amid an emergency blood shortage.
Dr. John Armitage, CEO of Our Blood Institute, said in a statement that due to the low blood supply, everyone is at risk in a worst-case scenario, such as a mass casualty event. He explained that patients in the hospital today are not affected by the shortage, but it is not enough to be secured in a worst-case scenario.

The cause of constant shortages, “It’s a math problem. We don’t have enough donors anymore; we’re losing donors to aging out, demographics, and older donors need to be replaced. An economist would say it’s a supply and demand problem as people age, and they need more blood,” said Armitage…
