AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As reported by the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the average gas price across Texas was $2.42 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday. Two cents less compared to the same day last week and 28 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.
According to AAA Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.71 per gallon, while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.15 per gallon. Drivers in Amarillo are paying $2.28 per gallon, which is 16 cents more compared to last week and 29 cents less compared to this day last year.
According to AAA Texas officials, the last time the Texas statewide average for a gallon of regular gas was this low was back in March 2021. Officials note that crude oil prices remain unchanged from the end of 2025 and unaffected amid questions about Venezuela’s impact on the oil market.
Amarillo gas prices fell 1.4 cents, average $2.07/gallon on Monday
“Texans are kicking off the new year with gas prices we haven’t seen since early 2021,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Stable crude oil prices and a strong global oil supply are helping keep prices in check as demand remains lower.”
