AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – A former Tascosa High School student is making Panhandle history, now starring on Broadway. Tevae Shoels recently made his debut in Disney’s Aladdin, bringing his Amarillo roots to one of the biggest stages in the world.
“I will be playing the genie in Aladdin on Broadway, which, funny enough, is the first show I ever saw on Broadway on a choir trip with Tascosa back in 2015,” Shoels said. “So it’s been a long time coming, ever since I saw the role then. I just knew I wanted to do it someday, so it feels really full circle to be able to be doing it now.”

Shoels is now performing in New York City, appearing as the Genie and serving as a standby for Babak in Broadway’s Aladdin. But long before Broadway lights and packed theaters, his journey began in Amarillo.
“You see it growing up in the Panhandle. You see New York City on TV, and it is just as crazy and fast-paced in person, but you know it makes me proud,” Shoels said. “Even still, I bump into people from Texas, and I’m still so proud to call Amarillo home and to call Texas home. I feel the love and support of everyone back home with this role. But yeah, it’s just not something I ever expected. Of course, something you always want, but you never know if it’s gonna happen.”…
