After a Mild Winter, Amarillo Faces a Sudden Cold Snap

It’s been a pretty mild winter here in Amarillo for the most part. We’ve had a couple of small stretches where the highs couldn’t find their way out of the low 40s, but overall, winter has felt a bit more like spring in the Panhandle.

Snow and moisture have been minimal, and the last time we were projected to get snow, we got a few flurries, not even enough to call it a dusting. It hasn’t been the most ideal winter, but it’s been enjoyable from a standpoint of enjoying warmer weather.

Quick Cold Front Coming Through

It looks like some of that could change a bit this weekend, but it’s not something that will be prolonged or sustained. Friday, we could see the temps dip to somewhere between 44-54 degrees, with overnight lows crashing into the 20s.

Saturday is the day when it looks like it could really be a chilly one. Temps are projected to be in the upper 30s and lower 40s for a high, which is a lot chillier than we’ve seen in some time.

Could We See Some Snow

This has been one thing that has really been lacking. By now, we’ve had at least 4-5 days of snow, and we haven’t come close to seeing that. So much for wanting to build a snowman or have an epic snowball fight…
