Yellow City Rundown Jan. 19-23: Holberg hearing, March elections, winter storm

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – On this episode of the Yellow City Rundown for the week of Jan. 19-23, we focus on the en banc hearing held over Brittany Holberg’s conviction, preparing for March elections, and the weekend winter storm.

Top the Panhandle:

  • En banc hearing held over Holberg conviction, death sentence in 1996 Towery murder
    • The United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals heard an en banc hearing, meaning all judges were present, over the reversed conviction of Brittany Marlowe Holberg for the murder of 80-year-old A.B. Towery Sr. in 1996.
      • During the en banc hearing on Wednesday, Holberg’s legal team argued that if the informant’s testimony had not been considered material, the jury might have ruled differently in 1998. The team stated to the judges that they believe Holberg’s actions past the initial beginning attack against Towery could have been considered self-defense by the jury in 1998 if it were not for the informant’s testimony.
  • How to prepare for the upcoming March election
    • The March election is quickly approaching
      • The deadline to register to vote is Feb. 2.
      • Early voting will begin on Feb. 17 and last 10 days; however, voting will officially start on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
