Amarillo saddle maker Richard Oliver to be honored at Western Heritage Awards

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Amarillo native Richard Oliver, a fourth-generation saddle maker, is among those being honored at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s 65th annual Western Heritage Awards on April 11, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Oliver runs Oliver Saddle Shop in Amarillo, a business that traces its roots to 1917, when his grandfather, C.W. Oliver, opened a shop in Vernon. Oliver joined his father after college and now works alongside his sons, Zeb and Bryan, continuing the family tradition of building custom saddles and tack for ranching, roping, cutting and show disciplines.

The shop is known for hand-built equipment designed for long days on the range rather than assembly-line production, and Oliver has maintained relationships with customers who often return generation after generation.

The family also supports Western heritage efforts, including the Working Ranch Cowboys Association and its mission to preserve ranching traditions and assist ranch families in need…
