Man pleads guilty to possessing gun in connection to February 2025 drug trafficking charge

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – One man entered a guilty plea in Amarillo Federal Court on Friday after being accused of possessing a gun to further a drug trafficking crime, after he was arrested in February 2025.

Court documents detailed Denzzail Clive Smith entered a guilty plea to one count of “possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime,” on Friday, which was the third count on his original indictment.

The charge came after a February 2025 incident, according to court documents, in which Smith said he knowingly possessed a 9 mm caliber handgun to further a crime of “possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.”

In February 2025, law enforcement investigated a home on 11th Avenue in connection to suspected drug trafficking involving Amanda White, who later pleaded guilty in July 2025 to possessing and intending to distribute methamphetamine. Court documents said Smith was found to be the holder of the lease of the home, which contained the handgun as well as “a large amount” of money, and around 2.7 pounds of methamphetamine.
