6 people arrested for federal drug charges in Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Six people were arrested on alleged federal drug charges, according to court documents filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Amarillo Division.

Court documents state that six individuals, including John Paul Reyes, Sr., Kevyn Andre Smith, Bryan Alan Draper, Richard Dwayne Draper, Valentino Daniel Lopez, and Anthony Maestas Diaz, were arrested on various alleged federal drug charges. The alleged charges include:

  • One count of “Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute 500 grams or More of Methamphetamine,” which all six individuals were allegedly charged with.
  • Lopez was allegedly charged with two counts of “Distribution and Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine.”
  • Bryan and Richard were allegedly charged with two counts of “Distribution and Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine. (Actual)” and one count of “Distribution and Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine.”
  • Reyes, Smith, and Diaz were allegedly charged with one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute 500 Grams or More of Methamphetamine.”
  • Reyes was also allegedly charged with one count of “Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.”

According to previous reporting done by MyHighPlains.com, Smith was arrested and charged with alleged “possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine” on Jan. 5. Previous court documents state that the Department of Homeland Security and Amarillo Police Department were conducting surveillance on Smith as part of a methamphetamine smuggling investigation. Smith was allegedly seen as a passenger in a 2020 Nissan sedan and was seen by officers entering and leaving a home that belonged to him, which was allegedly identified “as a stash house associated with the distribution of methamphetamine.”

Previous reporting stated that officers allegedly found a vacuum-sealed package containing about two pounds of methamphetamine under the driver’s seat, and police later reported finding about 13 additional pounds of methamphetamine in Smith’s home…
