AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — With Valentine’s Day prompting many to think about safe sex, a doctor at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center is urging people of all ages to get tested regularly for sexually transmitted diseases, especially in Amarillo.
According to CDC data, Amarillo is ranked 47th in the United States for the highest number of STD cases. Dr. Brian Weis, regional dean of the TTUHSC School of Medicine, said the rates are driven by several infections.
“So we have high rates. And when we look at these rates, we’re talking about particularly HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. And that’s where these numbers are generated,” Weis said…
