1 killed, 5 hurt after SUV hits bridge pillar in Amarillo

A 56-year-old man was killed and five others were injured Monday evening, Feb. 16 when a speeding SUV crashed into a concrete bridge pillar in downtown Amarillo, police said.

Officers were dispatched about 5:18 p.m. to the 100 block of North Fillmore Street for a major single-vehicle crash, according to the Amarillo Police Department.

Investigators said a 17-year-old was driving a 2017 Ford SUV northbound at a high rate of speed when the vehicle lost control, struck the east wall of the underpass and then skidded into a concrete bridge pillar…
