Texas Panhandle wildfires fully contained as of Feb 22

With the red flag warnings expired and most of the fire weather danger past, the two large fires in the Texas Panhandle were both declared fully contained on Sunday, Feb. 22.

The 8 Ball fire in Armstrong County burned about 13,500 acres to the east of Amarillo, while the Lavender fire west of the city in Potter and Oldham counties was estimated to be 18,423 acres. The fires began during critical conditions Tuesday, Feb. 17, when various other fires sparked around the region.
