Xcel Energy says Amarillo power outages stem from substation issues

Some parts of the city of Amarillo experienced a loss of power including schools, the Amarillo Zoo and the Warford Activity Center, Thursday morning, Feb. 26, due to issues at power substations, Xcel Energy said.

Xcel said the outage on the north side of town that impacted at least 1,600 customers at one point was due to an issue at the Hastings Substation, and it lasted about 47 minutes. The utility company is looking further into what caused it.

In a different outage on the south side of town impacting about 450 customers, there is damage to some equipment at the Ridgecrest Substation that Xcel Energy is investigating…
