AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As reported by AAA Texas’ Weekend Gas Watch, the average gas price across Texas was $2.87 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday. This price is 26 cents more when compared to this day last week and 14 cents less compared to the same day last year.
According to AAA Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.17 per gallon, while drivers in Beaumont-Port Arthur are paying the least at $2.74 per gallon. Drivers in Amarillo are paying $2.88 per gallon, which is 39 cents more compared to last week and 23 cents less compared to this day last year.
AAA officials note that gas prices are climbing across the United States as crude oil prices rise and global tensions add pressure to energy markets. Officials add that prices were already trending upwards due to the switch to the summer blend of gasoline; however, Iran plays a “key role” in the global crude oil market, and crude oil is the primary ingredient in gasoline.
