Amarillo, Texas – Drivers across the Texas Panhandle may face rapidly changing conditions Thursday afternoon as powerful thunderstorms capable of producing 3-inch hail and wind gusts up to 75 mph develop near Amarillo and spread east along the Interstate 40 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, storms could begin forming as early as 1 p.m. Thursday, with the most active window expected between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. across areas near Amarillo, Vega, and Borger. Storms may continue shifting east through the evening hours toward Pampa, Canadian, and Wheeler, with activity potentially lasting until midnight
