NAACP town hall brings AISD officials to address enrollment trends, Carver concerns

Education concerns and misconceptions were the focus of a NAACP-hosted town hall at St. Johns Baptist Church, where Amarillo Independent School District officials answered questions from community members.

District officials gave a presentation that addressed population trends, enrollment trends and challenges, and birth rates. The town hall centered on education issues, including questions about Carver.

“Starting two years ago they became neighborhood schools,” AISD Superintendent Deidre Parish said. “So there’s still magnet schools and a lot of students choose to transfer to those schools because of the amazing programs that are offered there from piano to guitar to art. I mean, amazing, amazing schools and magnet programs. So I think we wanted to clear up that they were not neighborhood schools because they are.”…
