AMARILLO, Texas (Sunday, March 15th, 2026) — Powerful winds and dangerous fire weather conditions are expected to impact Amarillo, the Texas/Oklahoma Panhandles, and eastern New Mexico on Sunday as a strong cold front sweeps across the region, prompting a high wind warning, red flag warning and blowing dust advisory.
Conditions will deteriorate Sunday morning as the front moves through the area, bringing widespread blowing dust, rapidly strengthening winds and sharply falling temperatures.
Winds will increase to 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions on area highways and open roadways. The strongest winds are expected during the late morning and afternoon hours behind the front.
The intense winds are expected to kick up widespread blowing dust, reducing visibility at times from roughly mid-morning through the afternoon across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and parts of eastern New Mexico…
