Amarillo Fire Department brings new paramedic engine in service

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Fire Department has placed its fourth paramedic engine, Engine 12, into service at Fire Station 12.

According to AFD officials, all AFD engines are paramedic-ready, meaning they can operate at the paramedic level when a paramedic is assigned to that engine. Officials noted that a paramedic engine also ensures advanced life support resources, and a paramedic is in place every shift.

AFD noted that Engine 12 is staffed 24 hours a day with one certified paramedic as part of a four-person crew. Paramedic engines are also equipped with critical medications, including narcotics and paralytics, in addition to standard ALS equipment. AFD noted that this will allow crews to deliver a higher level of care upon arrival and work alongside Amarillo Medical Services.
