Downed live power line slows response as detached garage burns in Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A residential fire in Amarillo caused major damage to a detached garage Sunday afternoon, but no injuries were reported, according to the Amarillo Fire Department.

Fire crews responded around 2:58 p.m. to a single-family home in the 1000 block of South Travis Street, where they found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames with fire spreading into the backyard, officials said.

Firefighters established command, forced entry into the structure and deployed multiple hose lines to attack the fire. Crews also had to contend with a downed live power line in the rear yard, which delayed some suppression efforts until the hazard was secured by a utility company…
