From Cadillac Ranch to Backyard Signs: Our City’s Quirky Identity

There is a lot that makes us different. There is nowhere else that you can try your luck eating that 72 oz. steak. You can’t go anywhere else to enjoy a hike in Palo Duro Canyon.

Amarillo is the only place where you can take spray paint to both Cadillac Ranch and Slug Bug Ranch. We just have some of the quirkiest things that make us who we are. People come from all over to experience these things that we have in our backyard.

Some people even have really cool things in their backyard that many don’t. Those Stanley Marsh signs popped up all over the place in the 1990s. Over the years, some negativity has surrounded those signs.

I think we should enjoy them for what they are, an unusual part of Amarillo. The art project that those signs were a part of also happened to be the handiwork of Brian Deneke. It was part of the ‘Dynamite Museum.’…
