Texas Panhandle War Memorial National Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) β€” Texas Panhandle War Memorial Center welcomes the public to remember and honor military personnel on National Vietnam Veterans Day, March 29. This event honors the veterans who served in WWII, the Korean War, the Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the Afghanistan War.

This Sunday, a ceremony starting at 2:30 p.m., will be held at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial to honor these veterans.

Selective Service rules: Who would be exempt in event of a draft?

TPWM released the following information regarding the Vietnam war: β€œThe Vietnam War was a war between North and South Vietnam, with the US and others backing the South and the Soviet Union and China backing the North. The French had previously supported South Vietnam and when the French withdrew in 1955, the US assumed that role. The dates of the war span Nov. 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975 when the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, was captured by the North. U. S. troops had left Vietnam by March 29, 1973. The U. S. lost 58,209 Soldiers; 153,303 were wounded.”

Officials added that guests can view 152 names of Panhandle military personnel who gave their lives during the Vietnam War on the Vietnam War monoliths…
